Write cohesive essays.  CBAPELC S3—Logical organization, enhanced by specific techniques to increase coherence, such as repetition, transitions, and emphasis.
Understand how weave textual evidence into argument. CBAPELC LO3—create and sustain arguments based on readings, research, and/or personal experience
 
Monday, November 2
  1. Multiple Choice:  Ortiz and cold passage.
  2. Timed Writing: Argument
  3. HTWAS ch. 8 assignment:  NOTE, we are doing ch. 8 this week; we will return to ch. 7 next week.  The assignment is due at the BEGINNING OF CLASS.
 
Tuesday, November 3
  1. Cohesion Exercise #1.  From Rhetorical Grammar
    1. Read pp. 82-the top of 85 (Reader Expectation).  Complete the Group Discussion on pp. 84-85.
    2. Read pp. 85-top of 90 (Repetition). Complete the Group Discussion on pp. 89. Complete Exercise 16 p. 90.
    3. Reflection:  How can you apply today’s cohesion lesson to your research paper?
  2. Synthesis Refresh
    1. Read the 2010 form B—synthesis prompt on Daylight Savings Time
    2. Complete the Working the Synthesis Prompt handout
    3. Complete the Working the Synthesis Documents handout while considering the They Say, I Say templates.

Read pp. 94-96 (The Role of Passive Voice).  Complete the Group Discussion on pp. 96-97.

  2. Lab (Walter 9234; Tatum 9129): 
    1. Read pp. 18-19 in the research paper packet
    2. Complete the formal outline for your research paper.  Keep in mind your cohesion lessons from this week.
