Work Session:

  2. Compose an exposition Art & Reading ppt. EOC narrative review of STEAL elements and narrative structure; revisit punctuating dialogue correctly.

  1. Read Act II Scene 1.
  2. In island families review Act II Scene i, and analyze Gonzolo’s world view vs. Sebastian and Antonio’s remarks
    1. Focus especially on Gonzalo’s lines (II, i, 152-161) (Says, means, matters individual response)
    2. What is Gonzalo’s idea of the type of government or lifestyle that could be possible on this island? Why does he say this at this time?
    3. Sebastian and Antonio ridicule Gonzalo. What does this tell us about their characters?
    4. Compare each character’s world view and philosophies against your own group’s ideas.
    5. What type of person is Gonzalo? What was his role in the plot against Prospero? Does his behavior seem consistent with how he acts now?
    6. Antonio incites Sebastian to kill his brother and take the crown of Naples. Why? What does this tell us about Antonio’s motives? What does Sebastian’s response tell us about him? What could Shakespeare be saying about human nature?
    7. Is it surprising that Caliban willingly worships Stephano and desires to give him control of the island when he resents Prospero for usurping what he considers his rightful claim to the island? What does this show about Caliban?

  1. Explore Shakespeare’s world: Elizabethan language, the Globe Theatre, culture, history, and overview of The Tempest with Nearpod.
  2. Analyze, rehearse, and perform Act I Scene 1 (pantomime, self-reflection, group discussion; add dialogue).
Closer: Compare and contrast class performances with professional productions of the opening scene.

Today we will be participating in Elective Registration through the Counseling Office. Please bring your completed registration forms (the ones given to you in advisement last week :) 

This will most likely take the majority of the class period, so you should bring your independent reading text and be prepared to have ongoing work time on class assignments while we cycle students through the registration process.
