S 9/16: No Red Ink practice with capitalization and quotes.

Opener: Review chart for “Race Politics” and the excerpt from Always Running.
Work Session: 
  1. Review CEI format and paragraph structure.
  2. Compose a CEI response (argument: which genre more effectively portrays the incident and its significance in Rodriguez’s life; OR informative: compare the way each genre conveys the claim).
  3. IAN: Review the memoir you composed from the beginning of the class and turn it into a poem (enter the “great conversation”)
​Closer: ​IR: Complete reading log for independent reading; book pass--read each other’s books for 5-10 minutes and log post-it summary +/-.
HW: Polish argument paper (due Wed. night to Turnitin.com; hard copy due in class Thurs.)

  1. Label an index card with side A and side B.
  2. Select a quote from the chart p.287 and write it on side A of the card; close read and write an interpretation on side B.
  3. Participate in a poetry mixer, walking around and discussing your quote and interpretation with another student (10 min total). Debrief as a whole class: What is poetry?
Work Session:
  1. ​SB: Activity 4.1 Previewing the Unit
  2. IAN: Label QHT for new unit vocabulary p.284; complete a stoplight self-check for skills and knowledge in EA1 p.329-30 and EA2 p.355-6.
Closer: Read your independent reading book.

Thursday, September 13

Opener:  Read "George Gray" and discuss; analyze poetic language and character development
Work Session: 
  1. Analyze the prompt and claim statement for a CEI paragraph comparing/contrasting the two works. 
  2. Plan out body paragraphs and text evidence selection.

Friday, September 14 PEP RALLY BELL SCHEDULE

Opener:
Review EOC constructed responses
Work Session:
  1. Read "Fiddler Jones"; analyze and discuss
  2. Respond to an EOC prompt
Closer: Read independent reading book.
HW:  Enjoy being a kid. Savor a little bit of high school life by attending Homecoming activities. Spread kindness and positivity in the world. :)
